WHAT:

Threat-Focused Shooting is a live fire course that was originally developed by Sergeant Joseph "Little Joe" Ferrera for the Advanced Law Enforcement Training Camp in Utah . Joe has been teaching this program at the LETC since 1998, the year following Lieutenant Colonel Applegate's now famous presentation. Topics will include Survival Stress and Combat Performance, The Fighting Platform, Threat-Focused Shooting Methods, Patterns of Movement and Third Party Defense Issues.

Airsoft Training Methods is a unique training seminar developed by Lou Chiodo to utilize Airsoft technologies to help develop combat shooting skills appropriate for close-quarters engagements. This program will focus on skills not possible with live fire training. The curriculum will include:

The physiological and psychological affects of combat stress on combat shooting methods
Development of "Target-Focused Shooting" for close-quarters engagements
Developing the ability to employ our handguns in a 360 degree "Defensive Umbrella"
Integrating movement in our combat shooting methodology
Interactive training with "human targets"

Close-Quarters Battle Rifle and Shotgun seminar is a single, one-day workshop divided into two sections. Taught by Lou Chiodo, the rifle section will explore the use of the rifle as a primary weapon system in either law enforcement or home defense. The focus of the seminar will be employing the rifle from point blank range to approximately 50 yards. The emphasis will be on developing close range skills that are directly applicable to the manner in which the rifle is used in real world encounters. Additional topics will include considerations in the selection of equipment and ammunition and the effects of combat stress as it applies to our use of the rifle in close-quarter engagements. The combat shotgun is a devastating close-quarters fighting tool. The primary objective of this section is to increase the participant's ability to employ the combat shotgun with increased proficiency and to instill greater confidence in his/her ability to employ the combat shotgun as a primary defensive weapon. In conjunction with shooting skill development, topics will include target engagement, shot patterns and how they affect target engagement and tactical considerations when employing the combat shotgun.

Offensive Unarmed Combat is the unarmed close quarters combat system taught by the late Lieutenant Colonel Rex Applegate to the instructor trainers of the Applegate Combat Point Shooting System. Taught by Officer Mark Prince, this course facilitates those philosophies, methods, and techniques of the unarmed portion of this system. In a behavioral laboratory type setting learners are taught unarmed techniques that fall within the deadly force area of a use of force continuum to be utilized "when weapons are not available, or when their use is not advisable". The system is to be utilized within the learner's official capacity, and within the policies and procedures of the learner's employing agency, as well as within the laws of the learner's jurisdiction.

Understanding Human Performance under Stress: This block of LECTURE-video-and demonstrations by Sergeant Joseph "Little Joe" Ferrera will look at some of the latest research and information on how humans perform under high levels of live or die stress. Students will look at the autonomic nervous system and its two branches as well as factors involved in pre and post incidents and stress reactions during the incident itself. Critical Incident Amnesia and memory recovery will also be covered, as well as changes to vision, cognitive processing, and motor skill performance.

"Our firearms program is not about shooting. It is about fighting. When the concept of fighting is taken out of firearms training, we have forgotten the purpose of our training." - LOUIS M. CHIODO, GUNFIGHTERS Ltd.
